Racism in the Jehovah Witness Watchtower
by fokyc inhttp://www.progressiveu.org/161523-racism-in-the-jehovah-witness-watchtower.
"watchtower society members claim to be different and better than the worldly people that they refer to as bird food.
society members refer to non-witnesses as bird food because they look forward to the time when the birds will feast on the flesh of dead non-witnesses after armageddon.

Divine intervention ?
by A Paduan inis the watchtower retarding of the inquiring mind something that can be simply explained in secular terms - or is there an 'other world' thing about the level of bafoonery displayed by the group of false propheteers that continues to believe in it's own divine authority?.

...and they looked at the holy writing and not seeing, they made their own stories up, and they looked at the holy writing and not, seeing they made their own stories up, and they looked at the holy writing not seeing they made their own stories up!.

Are Blood Tranfusions as dangerous and risky and the WTS claim?
by Fisherman inin and old post by marvin, he provides a link to a wts response to blood treatment.
the wts society spokeman writes that blood transfusions may cause immunological disorders.
since modern medicine gave out thousands of infected blood transfusions in the past causing death and ravaging disease such as aids and incurable and horrible hepatitis to mention some, there is reason for concern.. how safe and effective is blood treatment today?

I had one over 40 yrs ago - wouldn't be here without it - didn't catch any disease either.
Global disease spread (hep. & aids) became rampant before the blood banks were onto it - and there was money involved - the authorities in the U.S. were sternly warned about the possibility of HIV in blood product, but there was too much money involved - other countries that don't pay donors for blood products didn't have so many of the alley address crew donating either.
The safety depends on your individual health sytems in place - I transfuse quite a bit, in critical care, with no patients adversely effected.
When someone announces their superior "jwism" medical stance, it's as if the devil had just entered the room - once these people are of age (generally >21) no one really cares - there's a kind of "oh well" attitude, as if accountabilty for saving them just got transferred back to the patient.
I think the medical term is "who's next then"

The Seven Churches
by Pahpa inhere is a point to ponder:.
when john was instructed to write letters to the seven churches (rev.
1 - 3) as to "what is now and what will take place" (1:19) why were not the members of those bad churches advised "get out of her, my people?

However, 50 years later, things have become much worse.
Like what ?

"Non believers"
by JH inoften, the jw's use this term to describe people of other religions.. i told this to my mom today, and she couldn't get over their arrogance.
many people believe in god and are active in their religion, and this term that the jw's use is a huge lack of respect for others.. so, what is it exactly that other religions should believe?.
.

So, what is it exactly that other religions should believe?
That jws are the finest people on earth, and that nearly one hundred years ago Jesus chose them above all others in the world because of this, and because their thinking was right and every on else's thinking was wrong (and still is wrong). They should also recognise that jws are the 'true' religion because they go door to door in their neighborhood and have a 'first name' for the Almighty.
Another thing that other reigions fail at believing is that the world is going to end very very soon - this healthy belief would go a long way to assisting in not being so picky about the revelations from America about what God wants.

I hate having JW parents.
by reneeisorym ini'll try to make this long story short.. in october ... about 3 days before i left for a trip my mother decided to have my cell phone cut off.
i've had my bill in my mom's name since i was 16 and have always paid it since i was old enough to work.
but .. out of pure spite, she cut off my phone.

Don't allow her any control AT ALL in the way your wedding day goes. Invite her, and make sure that if she didn't show that it would have no more effect than if any other guest missed a plane. Your wedding day just isn't the day your needing another round of spite - try to get over it and be done with it before the day. Have someone else arranged to walk you down the aisle, someone that is trusted, and if they show and want to do it, well so be it, but don't expose yourself to potential disappointment.
And ask if they do come that they would control their whacky behaviour.

I'm dating a JW, and need some advice!
by changtech ini'm new here, and have read a lot of topics here.
this site has been very helpful to me in the short time i have been here.. what has drawn me here is the fact that i have been dating an active jw guy for about 9 months now (i was raised catholic, but am currently searching for a faith that i feel is right..i have yet to find it).
we are very much in love, but our differences in beliefs have caused a lot of problems.

My boyfriend has basically told me (in a nice way, however), that the only way we can remain together in the future, is if I eventually convert to his faith. This tears me apart, as we are very much in love, and I don't seem to be the top priority in his life, as he is in mine.
I don't think so - I would say that you are - it doesn't make for a marriage, and it's likely to be much more worse in the future - at least now you currently still have yourself, don't lose that too - can you not see that his self is not his, to be himself.
Imagine a young boy who is scolded and told by his parents that he's not to be you friend, and he does what they tell him, and becomes something else, and not the person you were thinking you knew - that's pretty much it, except these are adults we're talking about.
I realize it has been drilled into his head that Jehovah is the priority in his life.
Not even that - being sanctioned as a member of the wt society is his priority, and his idea of what prioritising 'jehovah' is all about

It's not a good thing

In Ecclesiastes 9: 5,6,10 we read:
5 For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all, neither do they anymore have wages, because the remembrance of them has been forgotten. 6 Also, their love and their hate and their jealousy have already perished, and they have no portion anymore to time indefinite in anything that has to be done under the sun.
The spiritually dead don't even know that they are, and they have no portion anymore, in the kingdom - like jws
The rememberance of the living is not forgotten

"This Generation"
by Jeffro ini know the witnesses changed their 'generation' definition in 1995 to get away from being tied down to the literal generation of people who saw 1914.. but applying their definition of the word to matthew 24:34 makes the verse meaningless, regardless of whether the original text grammatically allows for their interpretation.
there is no point in saying "this generation will by no means pass away" if 'generation' merely refers to an attitude of people which may remain the same for any ongoing period of time.. there is simply no point in saying it unless it was intended to refer specifically to a literal generation of people who were alive at the time.
of course, there is no validity to their 1914 doctrine anyway, but nevertheless, they are inextricably stuck with it..

They needed a new meaning that still suited their 'unique' idea of the "things that will take place"
